You don't need to be a DIY expert. All you need is a steel tape measure. Follow these simple steps and you'll have perfect-fitting shades in about 15 minutes per window.
Fabric tapes stretch and are inaccurate. A stiff steel tape gives you reliable numbers.
Round to the nearest 1/8". Do NOT make any deductions — we handle that for you.
Even windows that look identical can vary by an inch. Measure each one separately.
Before you measure, decide how your shades will hang. Both look great — it depends on your window and style.
Shades sit inside the window frame. Clean, built-in look. Best when you have at least 1.5" of frame depth.
Shades hang on the wall above/around the window. Makes windows look larger and blocks more light.
Measure the window frame width at the top, middle, and bottom. Use the smallest of the three measurements. Round to the nearest 1/8".
Measure the window frame height at the left, middle, and right. Use the longest of the three measurements. Round to the nearest 1/8".
Measure how deep your window frame is (from the front of the casing to the glass). Note any obstructions like window cranks or handles. Minimum depth is 1.5".
Measure the total width you want covered. We recommend adding 1.5" on each side (3" total) to eliminate light gaps. Round to the nearest 1/8".
Measure from where the top of the shade will mount to where you want it to end. Add at least 4" above the window frame for the mounting brackets. Round to the nearest 1/8".
Check for window cranks, handles, or wall trim that may interfere. Let us know in your order notes and we'll accommodate.
Double-check your measurements, then shop our collection. Every shade is custom-cut to your exact size.
